The Red House explores my personal feelings living in a rented accommodation I was uncomfortable with. We had unwittingly moved into a flat which was already being lived in, with clutter, crockery, furniture and souvenirs littering every surface. The flat felt stifling, with its abundance of bright red furniture, and surrounded by items that weren’t ours. We ended up covering as much of the red as we could with fabric, and attempting to claim the space with plants. This resulted in a clash of comfort, discomfort, and the feeling that my 'home' was not necessarily my refuge.
